Terms and Conditions For Receiving Financial Aid at Helena College

Explanation of Your Estimate of Financial Aid

  • The award notice represents an accurate estimate of your aid if the information you provided on the FAFSA is correct.  This offer is contingent upon the availability of funds and subject to change during the award period in accordance with federal regulations, institutional policy, and the accuracy of information provided by you.  
  • Your award will be adjusted to reflect the enrollment status you reported on Tab 3.  If you are not enrolled in the correct number of credits at the beginning of the semester, disbursement of aid will be delayed.  Wait-listed courses are not counted in your enrollment status.
  • The Federal Pell Grant value listed represents the amount paid for full-time attendance.  Students attending with 9-11 credits will usually receive 75%.  Students attending at 6-8 credits usually receive 50%.  Fewer than 6 credits may receive 25%.
  • Tuition waivers will always match tuition charges and an increase or decrease in credits will affect the actual value listed on your bill.  Mandatory and optional fees are not covered with tuition waivers.
  • All Federal Stafford and Federal Plus Loans are subject to origination fees.  The amount disbursed will be less than the award amounts shown.  Enrollment in six credits is the minimum number of credits needed to qualify for a federal loan.
  • Work-study is available.  Please schedule an appointment with the Financial Aid Office to see if you qualify.

Conditions for Receiving Financial Aid at Helena College

  • I understand that I must be making satisfactory progress in a course of study leading to a degree or certificate.  I further understand that my financial aid will be canceled if I fail to meet satisfactory progress requirements.  Information is available online at www.umhelena.edu.
  • If I do not begin attendance in all classes, withdraw from a semester or receive all failing grades, I understand: (1) I may not have earned my federal aid and may owe a repayment, and (2) I may be ineligible for further aid.
  • I will inform the Financial Aid Office promptly of any other money I receive for educational purposes.  Assistance that must be reported includes, but is not limited to: scholarships, Vocational Rehabilitation, Tribal Higher Education funding, or residency status changes.
  • Grant amounts are adjusted up and down based on changes in enrollment status through the 15th class day.  No changes are made to grant amounts after the 15th class day, even if you add credits.

Authorizations Given to Helena College

  • I authorize Helena College to use my financial aid to pay charges other than tuition, fees, and book vouchers that may include medical insurance premiums.  This authorization is for the academic year and for charges up to $200 for the previous academic year.
  • I understand that I may cancel any of these authorizations by contacting the Financial Aid Office in writing at any time.  I also understand that I am responsible for payment of any outstanding charges before my financial aid will be released.
  • I acknowledge that under regulation governing financial aid programs, Helena College Financial Aid Office may release information about me to other qualified agencies including my lending institution.  The information released may include my academic progress, grade point average, addresses, references and any financial aid information applicable to my eligibility for financial aid.
