Policies
The Learning Center is staffed by trained and knowledgeable tutors who are primarily students at UM-Helena. We occasionally also offer the services of Carroll students as well. Our tutors are in the Learning Center from 8 to 8:30 Monday through Thursday and from 8 to 4 on Fridays. There is also a tutor here on Saturdays from 10 to 2 p.m. Please see the Tutoring Schedule link on this page for a detailed schedule of when each tutor works and his or her proficiency areas. Students may request a specific tutor at a specific time or just drop in to receive help.
Tutors assist students with homework, test preparation, study skills, paper editing, and general computer skills, in addition to other academic needs. Tutors are NOT expected to type papers, do homework for the student, help with tests, complete student worksheets, or do take-home tests.
It is the policy of the Learning Center that no food be consumed in the room. Water only must be in covered containers. We ask that cell phone calls be taken outside the Learning Center. Also, small children can be distracting to working students; please leave your little ones at home.
Students are asked to log in and out of the Learning Center when they work. This helps us keep track of how many students are using the facilities. At this time, students may print what they need, but we ask that students be conservative with their printing needs and be mindful of printing unnecessary pages.
Students should ask tutors for general assistance, including refilling the printer with paper, looking for lost disks, etc. Our tutors are here to make the student's learning process as smooth and positive as possible.
