WITHDRAWALS – OFFICIAL & UNOFFICIAL
Students receiving Financial Aid (Title IV funds) who officially or unofficially withdraw from UMH will be subject to the return of funds and/or repayment policy set by the Department of Education and UMH. Title IV funds include the following aid:
1. (Pell) Pell Grants
2. (ACG) Academic Competitiveness Grants
3. (FSEOG) Federal Supplemental Educational Grant
4. (FFEL) Federal Family Educational Loans (Subsidized & Unsubsidized Loans)
Title IV Return Policy
Due to reauthorization in 1998 of Title IV funds, the policy for return of funds is subject to the following:
Ø During the first 60% of the enrollment period, a student “earns” Title IV funds in direct proportion to the length of time he or she remains enrolled.
Ø If the student withdraws before 61% of the enrollment period he/she will be responsible to repay the unearned portion of aid received.
Ø The student will be billed for the amount UMH must repay to the Federal Government due to his/her withdrawal.
Ø If a student withdraws on or after 61% of the enrollment period then the student nor UMH will owe money back to the federal government.
Ø A student who withdraws will be immediately suspended from Financial Aid and may appeal for reinstatement of his/her financial aid for future semesters at UMH.
Officially Withdrawals
The withdrawal process officially begins upon the request of the Withdrawal form from the Student Access Center. Students will be advised as to their responsibilities and a form will be forwarded to the Financial Aid office for processing.
Unofficial Withdrawals
Student grade report of credits attempted and zero GPA constitutes an “unofficial withdrawal.” Unofficial withdrawals are calculated, for return of funds, using the student’s last date of class attendance, verified by the instructor’s attendance records.
